AAU Agri Alumni Meet

Great Alumni Meet 2023 Started

The College of Agriculture, Jorhat had its origin in the erstwhile Assam Agricultural College which was established on August 16, 1948 to impart education in agriculture and allied branches of learning. Late Rev. B. M. Pugh joined as the first Principal of the College and served till July 1949, and then Late Dr. M. C. Das took over, and served the college for 17 years. Under the dynamic leadership and vision of Dr. Das, during the period, the institution gained momentum to become a full-fledged Agricultural College and paved the way for establishment of the Assam Agricultural University on 1st April, 1969.

Since its establishment, being the pioneer and a leading institute of this kind in this part of the country, the College is catering to the needs of agricultural education, research and extension not only in North-East India but also in other parts of the country and abroad. The college so far has produced 5280 graduates, 2456 M.Sc. and 334 Ph.D.'s; who hailed from different states of India as well as foreign countries like Iran, Syria, Egypt, Uganda, Vietnam, Maldives, Ghana and Sri Lanka.

Most of our alumni were absorbed in the government services concerned with agricultural development and administration in the country. With changing scenario after globalization and opening up of economy, the focus has been shifted to private sectors. As a result, a sizeable portion of the alumni have been employed in different companies dealing with agro-business, finance and others, many of them are occupying coveted positions in those sectors. What we are today is because of this great institution and we owe a great deal to her.

As such there is a need for providing a platform for the alumni of the college, who are working for the growth of diverse fields, so that they get an opportunity to meet each other, share their views and experiences and also to contribute towards qualitative development of our alma mater. Further, it is also desired that the current generation of students of the college would get an opportunity to meet and learn from their fraternity about the opportunities available in different sectors and how best they could prepare and mould themselves for a career in those sectors. Keeping these in view, an Alumni Meet of the College of Agriculture, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat is being organized at Jorhat during February 11-12, 2023. All the alumni of the college are earnestly requested to register their names online and participate in the Alumni Meet.
